At the invitation of Mr. Zhu Shanlu, Chairman of Peking University Council and Chairman of Beijing Forum Organizing Committee, and Mr. Zhou Qifeng, President of Peking University and Chairman of Beijing Forum Academic Committee, Professor Justin Yifu Lin, Senior Vice-President of the World Bank has recently agreed to join the Academic Committee of Beijing Forum as an advisor. This will further enhance Beijing Forum’s worldwide reputation and enlarge its international influence.
Professor Lin in his letter in response to the invitation highly evaluated Beijing Forum’s effort over the past eight years, saying that the Forum serves Peking University while setting its eyes on the Asia and beyond. It congregates world renowned scholars to explore on issues concerning intercultural exchanges and harmony among civilizations. It has gained increasing attention and echoes from the international academic community. He expressed his strong willingness to join Beijing Forum Academic Committee as an advisor to make further contribution to the Forum’s development.
At the eighth Beijing Forum held in the November of 2011, Professor Lin delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony titled “China’s Economic Development and Cultural Renaissance in the Multipolar Growth World of the 21st Century”, in which he illustrates what is the core value of the Chinese culture and why it is prospective that China can revive its culture. His speech was well-received by all the participants from around the world.

Beijing Forum Academic Committee is an important organ for strategic consultation and decision making on the academic affairs of the Forum. Its advisors have particularly contributed to the Forum by giving suggestions and helping formulate guidelines on the Forum’s major academic issues, as well as recommending and helping facilitate the invitation of keynote speakers for the Forum. By far, the committee has had many big names of the international academic community as its advisors such as Kenneth J. Arrow, 1972 Nobel Prize Laureate in Economics and Professor Emeritus of Stanford University, Amartya Kumas Sen, 1998 Nobel Prize Laureate in Economics and Professor of Harvard University, Elizabeth J. Perry, Director of the Harvard-Yenching Institute and Professor of Harvard University, Seyyed Hossein Nasr, Professor of George Washington University and President of the Foundation for Traditional Studies, Jürgen Moltmann, Professor Emeritus of Tübingen University of Germany, Tu Weiming, Dean of the Institute for Advanced Humanistic Studies at Peking University, Li Yining, Professor of Peking University, Yuan Xingpei, Senior Professor of Peking University, Tang Yijie, Senior Professor of Peking University, and so on.
